program was initiated by SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education
Organization). An organization founded in 1965 that involved the country in
Southeast Asia to promote cooperation in education, science and culture in the
ASEAN countries.
SEA-Teacher
Program or also commonly called as Pre-Service Student Teacher
Exchange in Southeast Asia, is a program that aims to provide an
opportunity
for students from universities in Southeast Asia to have a practicum
experience
teaching in schools in the other ASEAN countries. There are three SEAMEO
member
countries are working together on this program. Those country are
Indonesia, Philippine, and Thailand. One of the major goals that
work together to improve the quality of education in Southeast Asia and
revitalize education teachers and continue to build and strengthen the
capacity
of teachers in the country of origin.
In the education sector in particular, SEAMEO intensify improve the quality of education in Southeast Asia, particularly the quality of teachers is the key to success in education. Therefore SEAMEO has started SEA-Teacher Project, one of which begins with this teacher exchanges between universities in Southeast Asia for practicum (teaching experience).
Through
the exchange of teachers, prospective teachers will understand teaching
practices in the Southeast Asian region, the curriculum relevant to their
subjects, and gain greater insight into educational and cultural horizons, especially
in Southeast Asia.
Through SEA-Teacher Batch-5, expected to be a place for student teachers to become more skilled in learning and teaching, particularly on pedagogical competence. Furthermore, participants are also directed to trained in English language proficiency. It all can not be separated from the purpose to increase a wider understanding of the regional perspective and the outside world.
The extent of the development of science of course
requires students to always have new knowledge to grow. In other words, a
student would have to develop pedagogical, through exchange or
internship, both nationally and internationally.
